Rainbow Spaghetti

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

A #SensoryActivity 'Dublin' as Dinner?! Yes Please!

With St. Patrick's Day coming up, I wanted to "teach" Noah about his Irish roots. This one is for you Grandpa.

I'm a big proponent of Sensory Activities that require the fewest ingredients possible, and preferably ones that can be found around the house or in our pantry.

TWO INGREDIENTS are all that is required to make #RainbowSpaghetti! Pinch me!

What You Will Need:

1. Box of Spaghetti 2. Food Coloring Gel 3. A Large Pot (of gold 😛) to cook the Spaghetti in 4. Ziploc Sandwich Bags 5. Shallow Casserole/Baking Dish (We use this Libbey Dish for literally everything!) (I used this same dish for the JELL-O Dig)

Step 1: Follow cooking instructions on your spaghetti box.

Step 2: Drain, then rinse your noodles.

Step 3: Evenly distribute noodles between 7 Ziploc sandwich bags.

Step 4: Place 2 TBSP of water and 10 drops of gel food coloring into each baggie. Colors needed: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo & violet. (Gel food coloring can be found at your local grocery store or have it delivered Prime, baby!)

Step 5: Shake your bags until noods are fully coated. Your little ones can assist with this step.

Step 6: One at a time, rinse colored noodles in a colander with cold water. This removes excess food coloring.

Step 7: Arrange noodles into a rainbow or place in baking dish.

Step 8: Let your little Leprechaun play!

*Parents with older kids, an idea would be to hide gold coins in the spaghetti and ask them to fish them out or make up a song to help them master the colors of the rainbow!

For dinner time, toss rainbow spaghetti with butter and parmesan cheese! I also seasoned ours with a little salt and pepper! Topped with chicken meatballs.

If you decide to try this Sensory Activity at home, please SEND NOODS and tag me, @slayathomemama, in your Instagram posts/stories! I love hearing about your experiences. Best O'Luck, mamas!
