Buggin' Out!

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

A Springtime Sensory Activity With Chocolate, Oobleck Mud!

Have your kiddos been bit by the boredom bug while we practice social distancing? Through this Springtime #SensoryActivity, your little one can become a bug inspector! 🐛🧐

I made an edible, Chocolate “Oobleck” Mud for Noah to dig around in using only THREE Ingredients! We had these items in our pantry and it took only a matter of minutes to prep. Oobleck is a unique texture; it takes the shape of whatever is holding it! One minute it’s a stiff solid and the next it becomes liquid, dripping through your fingers. A little boy's dream, haha 😜

What You Will Need:

*I’ve linked our Amazon favorites for you below!

Step 1: In a shallow dish, mix together your dry ingredients (Cornstarch and Hot Chocolate Powder)

Step 2: Slowly add water to your ingredients.

Step 3: Stir!

*If the mixture is too watery, add additional cornstarch. If it is too dry, add in some water.

Step 4: Add bugs and excavation tools!

After your little entomologist is finished examining the bugs and playing in the “mud”, you can follow up this activity by going on a nature hike in your backyard, or reading the classic children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Our family also watched A Bug’s Life on Disney+!

If you decide to try this Sensory Activity, I'd love to hear about your experience! Please leave a comment below or tag me, @slayathomemama, in your post on Instagram.
